  I had a great experience here this morning. I traded my out-of-state license and plates for NY ones. I had read all the instructions online, and came prepared (insurance, proof of title, etc). They had me in and out in about 30 minutes including waiting my turn. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. The woman who assisted me at the counter was friendly, polite, and efficient. She helped me fill in the parts of the forms I found confusing. I saw several examples of thoughtful, warm service to other customers while I was there; plus some classic upstate-NY, firm, no-nonsense with a smile, when a customer acted out, but very professional and not at all harsh. All in all, a totally different experience than CT, where it took me 12 hours of waiting over 3 separate days to get my plates and license a few years back!

  Took a day off with one task of simply exchanging my deteriorating license plates (thanks NYS). Been here since 10:30...received #58. They were on #16 at that time. It is now 12:30 and they are on #32. Why is it that most restaurants have the ability to send you a text alert when your table is ready (usually 20-30 minutes out), but our NYSDMV, is content having a lobby full of people wait 4 or 5 hours? I expect better management here than at Applebee's.
